Hamilton County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

The American Conservation Foundation is currently supporting the development of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Hamilton County, Texas, in coordination with local officials, emergency response partners, landowners, and other community stakeholders. Once completed, the Hamilton County CWPP is intended to provide a locally driven framework for identifying wildfire risks, prioritizing mitigation needs, and guiding future preparedness efforts across the county.

The Hamilton County CWPP is being developed in alignment with the goals of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003 and applicable Texas A&M Forest Service CWPP guidance. Because the plan is still in development, public input, stakeholder coordination, and technical review remain important parts of the planning process before the CWPP is finalized and considered for approval.

The purpose of the Hamilton County CWPP is to help reduce wildfire risk, limit potential property loss, and support a more fire-resilient landscape throughout the county. Hamilton County’s rural communities, ranchlands, grasslands, wooded areas, and scattered development patterns make proactive wildfire planning an important step in protecting homes, infrastructure, natural resources, and emergency access routes.

Through this planning effort, ACF is helping Hamilton County strengthen wildfire preparedness by improving coordination among local governments, volunteer fire departments, landowners, emergency responders, and planning partners. When complete, the CWPP will serve as a practical guide for future mitigation projects, public education, emergency preparedness, and long-term wildfire resilience across Hamilton County.
