Erath County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

The American Conservation Foundation is working with Erath County, Texas, to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that reflects local wildfire concerns, community priorities, and the county’s rural landscape. This planning effort brings together local officials, emergency response partners, landowners, and other stakeholders to identify areas of concern, evaluate wildfire risk, and outline practical steps that can support long-term preparedness across Erath County.

The Erath County CWPP is currently in development and is being prepared with consideration of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003 and applicable Texas A&M Forest Service CWPP guidance. Since the plan has not yet been finalized or approved, continued stakeholder coordination, public participation, and technical review will help shape the recommendations included in the final document.

This effort is intended to help Erath County better prepare for wildfire by identifying local hazards, reducing potential impacts to homes and property, and supporting a more resilient landscape. With its mix of rural communities, ranchlands, agricultural areas, grasslands, wooded corridors, and scattered development, Erath County benefits from a planning approach that considers both community safety and the protection of natural and working lands.

As the CWPP moves forward, ACF is helping support coordination among county leaders, volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, landowners, and planning partners. Once complete, the plan will provide a locally informed guide for wildfire mitigation projects, public education, emergency preparedness, and future resilience efforts throughout Erath County.
